Our Story
We exist for the quietly overwhelmed.
Vela was founded on a simple observation: the people who most need emotional support are often the last to ask for it. Not because they don't want it, but because they've convinced themselves they shouldn't need it.
Founder's Story
"I built Velawell because I kept meeting brilliant people who were falling apart in private — and had nowhere to go that felt right for them."
I didn't build Vela from a theory. I built it because I was the person who needed it most — and couldn't find what I was looking for anywhere.
For nearly a decade, I worked inside organisations where burnout was worn like a badge. Long hours weren't a problem — they were proof you cared. Asking for help was quietly understood to mean you couldn't handle it. I watched people I respected disappear from roles they loved, and I watched myself becoming one of them.
I trained as a wellness practitioner not to pivot careers, but to understand what had happened to me — and to people like me. What I kept finding was that the existing support structures weren't built for this kind of person. They were built for crisis. And most of us hadn't reached crisis. We'd just reached the end of our reserves, quietly, without anyone noticing — including ourselves.
Vela started as a small practice in 2019 with twelve clients and no website. Every one of them came through referral. Every one of them said the same thing in their first session: "I didn't think I was struggling badly enough to deserve this." That sentence became the founding principle of everything we do here.

What we Believe in
"I kept waiting to feel bad enough to deserve help. What I found at Velawell was that you don't have to earn support; you just have to show up."
